Dental Plans in Los Angeles, An Overview

Dental health plans help individuals and families offset or minimize the cost of dental cares. Most people often confuse the difference between a traditional dental insurance plans and discount plans. Today, we are going to address the confusion by highlighting each plan’s insurance ups and highs.

Traditional Dental Plan
This is available to individuals and families with dental insurance coverage supported by large groups or employers. Premium is paid by the employer to have their employees ‘dentally’ covered. However, due to the fact that many of the employers are cutting back some of the benefits they provide, most people have come to check the internet to look for dental insurance plan alternatives.

For individuals, a plan could cost $35 every month with basic coverage like exams, hygiene clean-up, root canals, orthodontics, etc. This all depends on the insurance plan’s maximum annual spending limits. In addition, deductibles are charged on top of the dental plan premiums. These are the factors that affect the cost of the dental care.

Dental plans in Los Angeles have become unpopular lately regarding dental practices because of various reasons. First, you’ve got your hands a great dental insurance that allows you to pick any dentists. The problem begins when not all dentists will accept the insurance claims for payment, and the worst case scenario would be paying for the service, forcing you to reimburse the expense from your insurance company.

Second, most insurance companies will only cover expenses for a variety of procedures, of which some does not synchronize to the dentist’s fee expectations (e.g. for a simple dental bonding, the insurance company pays the maximum amount, often far less than what the dentist usually charges). Bottom line is you will have to pay for additional fees.

Discount Dental Plan
Discount plan differs from traditional dental insurance in small various ways. First, you pay a flat rate for the insurance on a yearly basis. Second, discount plan negotiates a discounted rate for services like dental visits (check-ups), tests, fillings, root canals, dental cleaning, and many more, which the dentist in contract agreed upon.

This gives you the freedom to choose the dentist without anxiety attacks of additional bills. The service has pre-arranged discounted rates which are presented prior to the reduced fee plan purchase. The only downside would be the limit of visit to the contracted dentist.

This is the reason why most individuals and their families prefer discount dental plan, and sadly, this is one of the main reasons why employer don’t give the coverage.  This also happens in the traditional dental insurance policies.
